Swiss chard seeds. I always let my plants produce seed, if they want. Some I save for starting in seed trays, some gets tossed around to do what it will.

After the plants are done, they get cut off at ground level. The roots feed the soil life and the dead plants act as mulch.

Today is day 10 of the #falliscomingproject and marks the end of the "Smell the Roses" theme for me. On to other themes!

Tuesday in the garden with unripe Blue Cream Berries tomatoes. This variety did well even though it was a bad year for tomatoes. Unfortunately it tastes as bland as grocery store tomatoes in January, so it won't be grown again.

As part of the #falliscomingproject, I'm staying off social media on the weekends and also limiting time on my phone in general. So Monday is a 3 picture day (days 6, 7, and 8). Today I present blackberries in different stages of ripening; volunteer sorghum in the garden; and Ice Cream, the Satin rooster.

A hike deep in the woods revealed the bones of a fawn scattered at the base of an uprooted tree. He was probably born this year, little button antlers still intact.

Perhaps we should bring the skull in from the woods and name him Jack Skellington. I could knit him an orange hat, with ear flaps and a brown faux fur pompom, so he doesn't get cold.

He could take up residence on the piano with Fall's pumpkin harvest. It would just scream Halloween. The guests might scream too, when they realize the knitted pumpkin is really a skull with good taste in headwear.

Oh yes, today is day 5 of the #falliscomingproject.

Day 3 of the #falliscomingproject and the chance of a first Fall frost has entered our weather forecast like an uninvited guest you're not surprised to see.

Soon the flowers and warm weather vegetables will be dying. But for the moment, they live.
